One of the best things about the Cool Cat Club on Friday was being introduced to the Paranoid Style. Whilst their set was as brief as brief can be, I did get hold of their rather brilliant ‘Paid To See A Trainwreck’ E.P. And have barely stopped listening to it since.

It’s an infectious slice of Americana pop with some wonderful melodies. Lead track ‘A Girl’s Gotta Eat’ for some reason reminds me a little of the Triffids, it’s vaguely reminiscent of ‘Field of Glass’, but the remainder of the songs are probably closer to the likes of the New Pornographers, particularly second track ‘Subtraction By Subtraction’.

‘Numb It Up and Go’ meanwhile is a harder rocking tune whilst closing song ‘More Than Faintly Absurd’ eases off on the gas a little.

Since the EP was just on a CD-R, it’s probably more of a smapler and I’m not sure where you can get it from. But there’s apparently a full length debut LP in the works. Can’t wait.

Here’s a video for the lead track:
