In which Vlad head to the Social and pick up a Hooker!
Hookers for Jesus / Vladimir / The Candy Store Prophets / Playground Tactics – Oxjam Benefit – Honduran Social Club, Dundee – 20th October 2012
Never been to a house gig before last night but this was great fun.
Playground Tactics opened the show first and their blast of garage rock surprisingly turned out to be the loudest act of the night.
Next up saw the return of the Candy Store Prophets who apparently haven’t played a show together since 1856. Or something. Totally acoustic and no drummer could this be the start of something to (mis)quote a later song? Certainly hope so.
Unexpectedly Vladimir were the light relief of the evening moving from ‘Cold Winter’s Grasp’ to ‘Dirty Old Town’ in 4 short songs via ESFTD and the Moldy Peaches. Only hope the video of the latter couple of songs never hits the internet – or their doom mongering reputation will be in tatters.
After an interminable wait whilst two divas delayed their entrance (the singer even behaving like he owned the place), Hookers for Jesus’s evil cabaret brought proceedings to a close after midnight with assistance on the last couple of tunes from CSP’s William on bass.
All things considered it was a good evening and raised funds for a good cause. Result.
