If 2012 was a great year for good LPs but a little short on great ones, then 2013 is already shaping up to exceed last year on both counts. Here’s a lists of things I’m looking forward to this year and it’s already quite lengthy:
LPs with Confirmed Dates
Rick Redbeard – No Selfish Heart (25th January)
Fuzzy Lights – Rule of Twelfths (4th February)
Frightened Rabbit – Pedestrian Verse (4th February)
Kid Canaveral – Now That You’re A Dancer (4th March)
Man Without Machines – The Kreuzberg Press (4th March)
LPs – release dates to be confirmed
Throwing Muses – Purgatory/Paradise
De Rosa – TBC
The Paranoid Style – The Paranoid Style in American Pub Rock
Behold, The Old Bear – TBC
Desert Hearts – TBC
Birdhead – TBC (March?)
Spare Snare – TBC (end March)
Mitchell Museum – TBC
Eagleowl – TBC
Adam Stafford – Imaginary Walls Collapse
Grant Hart – The Argument (this year, maybe? Please!)
Jackson Hall – Lost Love Songs Vol 1
The Grand Gestures – TBC (August)
The Paradise Motel – Oh Boy! (summer?)
Randolph’s Leap – TBC (autumn?)
Letters – TBC
More speculatively 2013 may also (hopefully!) bring LPs from Catlow, Panda Su Emma Pollock and Withered Hand. Difficult to imagine that Malcolm Middleton won’t have something out this year in some guise either.
Singles / EPs
50 Foot Wave – TBC – (tbc)
Behold, The Old Bear – Best Enemy (4th March February)
Hookers for Jesus – Flat Gum on an Asphalt Street (March?)
Vladimir – (2nd EP) (March?)
Death to Dreaming – TBC
Naked – TBC
and last, but certainly not least, the former Bad Books …
Book Group – TBC (Spring?)
I’m sure that I’ll have forgotten something obvious and important …

So I’m not the only person forlornly hoping for a return to form from Grant Hart – the only man to justify the American pronunciation of aluminium in a lyric.
Ach, I’m not sure that a return to form’s necessary – there’s been a fair number of good songs on the last couple of LPs – but I sometimes think they could be recorded better.
