Quiet Little Voices

Esperi / No Pasaran / Debutant – Drouthy Neeburs, Dundee – 30th October 2008

Things are finally happening for the De Rosa show on 21st November in Dundee. Advance tickets at just £4 (plus booking fee) are available in Groucho’s from the start of the week and hopefully online at Ticketweb around about the same time.

I caught up with one of the supports Esperi at Drouthy’s on Thursday night where Chris from Esperi put on a great little bill.

The first act I saw properly was Aberdonian solo lo-fi artist Debutant. Over just 4 songs he wove some intriguing sounds from just a guitar and effects.

Next up were a four piece Americana influenced band No Pasaran. Not the cheeriest listen by any means but they were excellent switching instrumentation to create different moods on the 6 songs played.

Finally Esperi themselves. They’ve got a very un-rock’n’roll line-up featuring harp and cello and were a bit more laid back than I’d expected from their Myspace. But with lovely melodies and Chris an engaging front man it’s a really good show even if the strings sound a little muted. They’re definitely going to bring something different to the bill.
