If it’s June in Edinburgh it must be time for an MPT multi-gig evening.
The inaugural Summer Solstice Festival in Edinburgh’s West End offers me the opportunity to repeat last year’s shenanigans, albeit without the need to rush between venues several times.
The Festival takes place at the end of this week on Friday 22nd and Saturday 23rd and has a number of free performances as well as a wide range of different events.
From the musical perspective the two top events are Roddy Woomble performing at St George’s West Church, Sandwick Place on the Friday at 8.45 pm and Emma Pollock playing at the Shining Light, 246 Morrison Street at 6.45 pm on Saturday. Both acts will be performing 45 minute solo acoustic sets.
There’s also two big comedy events with Fred MacAulay appearing at St George’s West Church at 7pm on the Friday whilst Jen Brister will be appearing at the Mercat on Shandwick Place at 9 pm on Saturday.
There’s a host of other events (including a talk by the Dalai Lama!) and you can find more information here.
MPT’s second gig of Saturday evening will be the Tidal Wave of Indifference’s show featuring the Bad Books, Loch Awe, Spook School and the New Fabian Society at 7pm in the Wee Red Bar. More info.
