So. On the back of the positive press garnered for the Sugar reissues, Bob Mould’s new LP ‘Silver Age’ is imminent (early September in the States or early October over here).

And there’s a single out, the video for which can be seen above. And yes, a Bob Mould video! When did that last happen?

The video sees Bob going crazy in a lift and abandoning the city for a life in the woods – and yeah there’s a burning (acoustic) guitar in there – what does it all mean?

Inevitably ‘Silver Age’ is being compared to Sugar. Certainly it seems to fit the bill in terms of being a no frills return to that type of rock – but is it as good as ‘Copper Blue’ or more akin to ‘FU:EL’? I’m inclined to the latter on the limited exposure I’ve had to the record (the single and some live tracks) and that’s no bad thing. Whatever it’s too early to say for sure and in any case there’s certainly a welcome energy about the buzzing guitars.
