In the latest installment of the 2014 review, Derek from the Fnords looks back on the last 12 months with Andy Wood.
Your Own Music
Your own musical highlight of the year?
Probably playing bass in one band and drums in another; both on the same bill.
Favourite performance of the year?
I enjoyed our set at the Coathangers gig that we played at. Fast and quite tight.
What’s the one thing that went wrong in 2014 you’d like to fix?
Not enough going on, due to other things elsewhere. Just circumstances, not really fix-able.
What you gonna be doing next year?
That, and a tenth anniversary to do something about…
3 LPs you’ve listened to the most in 2014?
More singles, as I’ve started doing more DJ-ing. Nothing new, really; think the newest thing I bought was Yoko Pwno’s CD at that gig at Henry’s.
Best gig attended?
The Tav Falco and Kid Congo ones were both pretty good.
Best discovery in 2014?
Space Ritual by Hawkwind!
Who should we be looking out for in 2015?
Us! There may be a new album…
Anything and Everything
Event of 2014
Hero of 2014
There are too many to list
Lowpoint of 2014
Villain of 2014
Again, too many to list; the self-interested Establishment mostly.
Favourite book of 2014
Concretopia (thanks for the recommendation!) – unless it was 2013? [Nope it was definitely this year – Andy]. The Scarfolk book is splendidly twisted, almost forgot that one.
Favourite film of 2014
Northern Soul and The Punk Singer were both good. Has to be Night Of The Bloody Antler though, doesn’t it?
Something to look forward to in 2015
More politics, the fascinating world of lower-league football, noisy rock’n’roll, manufacturing weird things.
