Think this will be the last review of the year for 2014 but there’s no more fitting way to go out than with one of MPT’s favourite bands, Book Group.

2014 has seen the band release their best record to date (‘Tantrums’) and unveil a series of new songs which augur very well for the debut album, which, I think they plan to start recording in the New Year.

So over to front man Graeme and, making his MPT debut, new bassist Kevin for their takes on the last 12 months.

Your Own Music

Your own musical highlight of the year?

K – Queens Hall with BR.

G – Releasing our EP was a hoot but I did love playing the Queens Hall. Was also really pleased with the video that Calum Ross created for us – he’s a star! I think the main highlight though for me would be playing London. We headed down with Adam Stafford and the Gerry Loves Records guys. Had a wicked weekend!

Favourite performance of the year?

G – Queen’s Hall with Broken Records but also loved getting involved with the Christmas Songwriter’s Club – we played three of our own Christmas songs alongside bands like teencanteen, Broken Records and eagleowl. Was fab!

What’s the one thing that went wrong in 2014 you’d like to fix?

G – Think 2014 has treated us pretty well.

What you gonna be doing next year?

G – Album is top of the list but definitely want to get back down south for more gigs.

K – Album

G –  Not getting my finger out and going to see Paws earlier. Caught them in December and blew me away. Can I mention the referendum? That was a nightmare!

Favourite book of 2014 –

K – The Humans by Matt Haig.

G – Stig of the Dump know its an old one but just finished reading it.

Favourite film of 2014

G – Captain Phillips (although I have seen hardly any films). I watched about 3 days worth of The Blacklist – that’s amazing. (MPT – Don’t worry G – there’s always Frozen II next year. You’ll not watch a grown up film for about a decade!)

K – Grand Budapest Hotel. Love Wes Anderson.

Best piece of advice you were given in 2014

G – Don’t be a dick.
