STOOR are familiar faces at the Cool Cat Club and Saturday’s appearance at the De Rosa show will be, by my reckoning, at least their fifth performance over the last couple of years.
A fairly productive year of local gigs, of course, was surpassed by the release of their brilliant, debut self-titled LP which at a stroke increased by sevenfold the amount of officially available STOOR recorded product.
Hearteningly the record has achieved a degree of recognition outwith the Dundee area actually topping the Is This Music? writers poll at the end of last year:
as well as featuring at number 2 in the Jockrock albums of the year:
Of course ‘STOOR’ also featured at number 4 in the MPT end of year list.
Whilst STOOR have done plenty of interviews for MPT, here’s a much more recent one from the New Hellfire Club, which (yet again) features a different origin story:
For those of you unfamiliar with STOOR, they evoke (for me at least) in different ways the likes of Wire, The Clean, The Gordons and The Three Johns. You really need to catch their energetic take on post-punk in the flesh and there will be no better time to do so than on Saturday.

Advance tickets at £6 will be available until lunch-time on Saturday from Groucho’s or online here. Price on the door will be £8 and doors are at 8.
