2009 Albums

1. De Rosa – Prevention

2. Lord Cut-glass – Lord Cut-glass

3. Lucas Renney – Strange Glory

4. Malcolm Middleton – Waxing Gibbous

5. The Phantom Band – Checkmate Savage

6. We Were Promised Jetpacks – These Four Walls

7. Zoey van Goey – The Cage Was Unlocked All Along

8. TV21 – Forever 22

9. St Vincent – Actor

10. You Already Know – Stop Whispering

Seven years on and I’m still pretty happy with this list. This was the first year that I did a Top 20 (Nos 11-20 here) and there’s only a handful of records that didn’t make the Top 20 which I think would be considered now:

The Antlers – Hospital
The Clean – Mister Pop
Cate Le Bon – Me Oh My

But it feels like the strongest list so far. Even if the e-music sub didn’t influence the list at all. For the first time the ‘having supported De Rosa’ category did influence the list (kind of). Zoey van Goey played with De Rosa as far back as May 2007 although to be fair I wasn’t that impressed! The records must have won me over.

2010 Albums

1. The Burns Unit – Sideshow (Review)

2. Kid Canaveral – Shouting at Wildlife (Review)

3. Emma Pollock – The Law of Large Numbers (Review)

4. The Phantom Band – The Wants (Review)

5. Ash – A to Z Vol 1 (Review)

6. Mitchell Museum – The Peters Port Memorial Service (Review)

7. No Age – Everything In Between (Review)

8. Tokyo Police Club – Champ

9. Citay – Dream Get Together

1o. Fuzzy Lights – Twin Feathers

This feels of lesser quality than 2009 but there’s not really anything in the rest of the Top 20 which jumps out at me as having been undervalued (although I thought I had a higher opinion of ‘The Suburbs than the list would suggest).

Nos 7-9 – No Age, Tokyo Police Club and Citay – all got in because of the e-music sub. And I saw Kid Canaveral and Mitchell Museum supporting De Rosa.

However there’s a few that would certainly have been threatening the Top 10 had I heard them in the course of the year:

Agnes Obel – Philharmonics
Anna Calvi – Anna Calvi
Film School – Fission
The Paradise Motel – Australian Ghost Story
Vic Godard & Subway Sect – We Come As Aliens

All going to plan, 2011 and 2012 tomorrow!
