Song of the Week (1) – Tom Hickox

I must admit that this probably isn’t the sort of thing that I’d normally go for. But when you see someone new and they are a pleasant surprise, you can get a little invested.

So it was with Tom Hickox when he supported Julian Cope earlier in the year at La Belle Angele.  On the strength of the show I bought his second album ‘Monster In The Deep’ a couple of weeks later.

The stand-out of an impressive set that night was undoubtedly ‘Istanbul’ which is also the most out and out singalong, pop song on the album. And would you know? He’s just released a video for the tune:

Tom’s about to set off on tour starting this week with 3 Irish dates in Belfast (13th), Galway (14th) and Dublin 15th.

After a couple of festival shows in Hamburg and, er, Ramsbottom, the U.K. dates start on 26th September in Bristol. Regrettably his only Scottish date is at the Voodoo Rooms in Edinburgh on Thursday 5th October (although it appears to be in the smaller Speakeasy rather than the Ballroom). [Tickets]

I’m a bit gutted that I’m otherwise committed that night and won’t be able to go. But ‘Monsters in the Deep’ is available to buy now and Tom’s full tour dates are here.
