Song of the Week (11) – BDY_PRTS

This week’s Song of the Week comes from Glaswegian duo BDY_PRTS (well, they’re based there at least) which comprises Jill O’Sullivan (Sparrow & the Workshop) and Jenny Reeve (Strike the Colours/Arab Strap live band).

I actually saw a very early BDY_PRTS show at the Queen’s Hall more than 5 years ago supporting Meursault (and before they mislaid their vowels). Whilst stripped back to just what Jill and Jenny could do on stage with a couple of pairs of hands, the basics were very much in place for the long awaited debut album ‘Fly Invisible Hero’ – out on Aggrocat Records on Friday 24th November.

Subsequently the duo have released a series of singles, the latest of which, ‘Take It To The Top’, is taken from the forthcoming album. Here’s the video for the song:

The album is a pleasing melange of influences, at times sounding a little like Sparrow & the Workshop and at others nothing like them at all. There’s a strong pop core though to the record with the likes of ‘Rooftops’ and the closing ’45’ lodging boasting deep hooks that you’ll struggle to shift.

BDY_PRTS have a series of dates tied into the album’s release including a Dundee debut on Wednesday 29th Novmber at Beat Generator Live.

Saturday 25th November – Aberdeen, The Lemon Tree
