Song of the Week #32 (2018) – Courtney Barnett

This week’s Song of the Week falls into the UEW (Unidentified Earworm) category. You know, when a song appears unbidden in your head and you can’t for the life of you remember what it is.

So it was with ‘Crippling Self Doubt and a General Lack of Confidence’ taken from Courtney Barnett’s second LP ‘Tell Me How You Really Feel’.

A good idea of the song’s melodies arrived in my head and it was definitely a female singer but having discarded the likes of Matha Ffion and the Lovely Eggs as the source material, I had to trawl the iPod to place it. Which is quite surprising since I’ve listened to the album quite a lot.

My impression is that, whilst it’s an album with stronger songs than the debut overall, it doesn’t have quite as many arresting songs. That sounds more negative than I’m intending but something prevent me from going back to the record quite as amuch as I think the songs deserve.

Anyhow, here’s the aforementioned UEW, although it’s earworm potential appears to have been ignored by CB’s label as there’s no video for the song:

  1. Checked this out – it is a corker, must be the chord changes and the primal drones…and the riffs – have dabbled in CB before but yeah i do get it now!
