2018 – Singles / EPs

This feels, more than ever, like a random selection of singles and EPs from the year past, but essentially represents the best of the shorter form records that I paid money for.

E.P. of the year

Karen – Filwood Broadway E.P.

Once of these chance happenings – Karen supported the Blue Aeroplanes at the Fleece show in December and they were great. Discovering that they had an EP out led to a purchase of the CD from here whilst you can buy the download direct from the band here.

This track from the EP would have been a strong shout for single of the year too if it had been released in its own right.

Single of the Year

De Rosa (featuring Georgia Cécile and Gillian Fleetwood) – Sylvia

The first new De Rosa material since 2016’s ‘Weem’, ‘Sylvia’ was something of a departure for the band as it was the first of their releases to feature a guest vocalist,  Georgia Cécile. Live member Gillian Fleetwood also recorded with the band for the first time.

Released as a download only, profits from ‘Sylvia’ are to go to homelessness. The single is available to purchase here.

The rest of the list is as follows:

Protomartyr – Consolation E.P.
Desperate Journalist – You Get Used To It E.P.
Wussy / The Paranoid Style – New American Standard / Absolute Cadavers (split 7″)
The Dream Syndicate – How We Found Ourselves … Everywhere! E.P.
Billordo –  Never Had A Folk Hit (Vol. 3) (Download)
Belly – Feel E.P. (10″ vinyl)
The Cathode Ray – Another World (download single)
Home Economics / Life Model  -Idiots / Real Estate (split single)

So stretching from download singles to a very lengthy Dream Syndicate E.P. which featured one studio recording and several live takes, that’s a diminished list for this year.
