Song of the Week #16 – Broken Chanter

Finally, there’s a chance to hear Broken Chanter properly.

Broken Chanter are, of course, the solo alter ego of David MacGregor from Kid Canaveral. With previous exposure limited to live performances and the odd selected radio show, at long last everyone has a chance to hear the glorious debut single ‘Wholesale’.

It’s a song that does share some DNA with Kid Canaveral, David’s plaintive vocals are the obvious link, yet musically the song uses the third Kid C LP ‘Faulty Inner Dialogue’ only as a jumping off point to somewhere different.

The weird thing is, great as ‘Wholesale’ is, as anyone’s who’s seen the live shows knows, there’s even better to come with the release of the album on Olive Grove/Last Night From Glasgow in September.

Here’s the video for ‘Wholesale’ by Richie Morgan:

There are three full band Chanter live performances this week to launch the single at the Leith Depot on Thursday (23rd May – with ULTRAS) , and two Glasgow shows at The Glad Café on Friday 24th and The Hug & Pint on Saturday 25th (both with Cloth).

There’s only one thing left to say – OMG they killed Peenko!
