I’m always amazed when this wee blog attracts the attention of artists that I like, particularly from musicians who are further afield.
So it was lovely to get a couple of nice messages from Robin Proper-Sheppard of Sophia to thank me for flagging up on Twitter that, well, I’d simply listened to a couple of albums from the Sophia back catalogue during my #WorkFromHome marathon.
Sadly, Robin also said that the new Sophia album, “Holding On / Letting Go”, originally scheduled for April, was to be delayed until August because of the current pandemic.
That hasn’t stopped Robin putting out a second single from the album following on from the sax epic ‘Alive’ which came out a few weeks ago.
Where ‘Alive’ was languid and laid back, ‘We See You (Taking Aim)’ is short, condensed and noisy based around a monster metallic riff. It’s flipping marvellous:
The tour for the album has also been deferred, mainly until November and December.
Unfortunately, there are no UK dates on the schedule at the moment although there is a gap of a few days at the start of December which would accommodate a couple of Scottish dates. I can dream …
In different times, the European dates would be tempting, but given the international misfortunes that seem to occur when we’ve booked to see a band in a European city outwith the UK or Ireland (volcanic ash cloud and coronavirus), you’d be forgiven for demand that the MPTs stay at home!
