My Brain Is Hurting

The Vinyl Villain has decreed that today should be Paul Haig Day in blogland so I’m happy to chip in and lend my support.

Long standing readers will perhaps faintly recall that I talked about Paul here. I liked the singles well enough and may well have followed those up with an LP purchase at the time but circumstances (eg unemployment!) dictated otherwise.

Fast forward 24 years and I get a Myspace message from a band called the Cathode Ray. It turns out that the band features a certain Paul Haig as well as songwriter/guitarist Jeremy Thoms, TV21 bassist Neil Baldwin and drummer David Mack.

Their debut single came out as far back as 2006 and features Haig returning to a guitar based sound. And it’s such a splendid record here’s both sides of that single:

What’s It All About?

Mind

You can buy What’s It All About?/Mind here.

The timing of Paul Haig Day is particularly propitious because by an amazing coincidence the Cathode Ray release their second single ‘Slipping Away’ this very day – get it here. An album is scheduled to follow later in the year.
